What is Botox?

Popular micro-injections that reduce or eliminate frown lines, forehead creases, crows’ feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck.

Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles to give the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. It is also effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating and reducing prominent jawline for a “sharper and softer” face shape.

How does Botox work?

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to make repeated facial expressions. Botox relaxes these muscles that cause expression lines, leaving the overlaying skin smooth and unwrinkled. These lines will gradually smoothen out from disuse and new creases are prevented from forming.

What can Botox be used for?

• Frown lines between eyebrows
• Horizontal forehead wrinkles
• Crows feet and smile lines around the eyes
• Facial contouring to reduce a square jaw
• Stop excessive sweating

What does treatment with Botox involve?

It is a non-surgical treatment whereby a small amount of Botox is injected into selected facial muscles using a very fine needle. No aesthetic is required. However, your doctor may use ice before injecting.

Treatment takes about 10 minutes.

Discomfort is minimal and brief with an ant-bite sensation for a few seconds. Most people resume normal activities immediately.

When can I see results?

It takes about 2-3 days for the Botox to take effect and about 7 days to see the full effect.

How long will it last?

Depending on the individual, the effects of Botox lasts up to 4 months. To maintain the effect, treatment should be repeated 2-3 times a year.

What happens if I do not continue with the treatment?

The lines will gradually revert to their pre-treatment appearance. Depending on the individual, this may take between 6 to 12 months.

There is no adverse effect if treatments are not continued.

Is Botox suitable for men?

Botox is equally effective for men and women. It is the leading cosmetic treatment performed on men in the USA.

Because of its effects on frown lines, it is very popular with businessmen as this treatment leaves them looking refreshed and approachable.

What are soft tissue fillers?

Soft tissue fillers are flexible substances, commonly injectable hyaluronic acid/ collagen that can be injected into the skin to smoothen it and to give a more youthful appearance. They are often used as a first line of defence against aging skin and are sometimes used in conjunction with other techniques for facial rejuvenation.

What can soft tissue fillers use to treat?

Soft tissue fillers can be used to:
• Improve and eliminate fine lines and deep wrinkles
• Plump up lips
• Fill out hollow cheeks
• Improve scars
• Elevate deep folds
• Repair various facial imperfections
• Reshape nose and chin

This procedure is popular among men and women alike as it is a very safe procedure with minimum downtime, does not involve major surgery and is cost-effective.

How can soft tissue fillers help you?

With age, there is a loss of volume in fatty tissue as the underlying collagen and elastin fibers begin to deteriorate. This results in crow's feet, laugh lines, folds and furrows on the forehead, and "hills and valleys" on the lower part of the face.

Soft tissue fillers can plum up the skin, fill and contour the aging face, allowing the dermatologist to re-shape the face and smoothen out the skin.

Injected into the lips, fillers can create a fuller, more sensual look. Use it in the hollows of the cheeks and reduce the gaunt appearance. Acne scarring can also be smoothened out with fillers.

How is the procedure performed?

This is relatively simple, and can be performed in the doctor’s office.

The doctor will first administer skin tests to determine if you are likely to have an allergic reaction to the filling substance.

Before the procedure, your face is cleaned and antiseptic applied to the treatment areas. Using a very small needle, the doctor injects the filler directly into the wrinkle. Several sessions may be required to fill and level a depressed scar with the surrounding skin.

Immediately after the procedure, temporary redness, swelling, or minor bruising may occur but will subside and fade quickly. Makeup can be applied immediately after the treatment.

How long does the improvement last?

With a proper maintenance program, the results are generally very long lasting. Touch-up or maintenance treatments are generally required after three to six months.

Correction of acne scarring tends to last longer.
